Women's coffee project, Colombia
The Colombian Women's Coffee Project is a Specialty Coffee produced exclusively for the European market by fincas run by women, promoting gender and social equality.
The project poses itself a series of specific objectives:
- Education (everyone under 21 needs to be included in the national primary and secondary school education plan).
- Access to healthcare (All workers, pickers, administrators and the family of the women farmers should be included in the national health system, in the contributory or subsidised scheme, as appropriate).
- Decent housing (The farm must include a comprehensive development plan, whose implementation must not exceed one year. This plan seeks to create and identify the basic areas of housing with basic sanitation).
- Sustainable farming (Education to the women associates, allowing them to improve their production techniques and to obtain a high quality product through homogeneous techniques).
Together with financial support for the women involved, the Women's coffee project coffee sustains gender equality and social homogeneity. We, at Coffee-Hat, have a duty and a desire to promote smart purchases supporting local communities.
